Sensory Crawl 
Please provide appropriate supervision to the children in your care when completing all activities. You will need to decide what types of activities are safe for the children in your care.  Appropriate and reasonable caution should be used when providing activities to young children.

Age Group: ​ ​
  • Mobile infants
Objectives:
  • Child will develop gross motor skill of crawling   
CDA Competency Standard:   
II.4.1a
  • Activities, materials and equipment encourage children of varying abilities to develop their large muscles
    • a) Gross motor skills are encouraged through developmentally appropriate materials, equipment and indoor/outdoor activities
Materials:  
  • Various large pieces of fabric such as:  
    o   Velvet
    o   Felt 
    o   Vinyl
    o   Canvas    
Procedure: 
  • Lay out the pieces of fabric in a safe place for baby to crawl.     
  • Encourage baby to crawl on the different kinds of fabric but allow them the freedom to choose where to crawl.
Assessment:  
  • Observe and record baby’s reactions to the materials as well as their gross motor skill coordination.
