Autumn Tree

Please provide appropriate supervision to the children in your care when completing all activities. You will need to decide what types of activities are safe for the children in your care.  Appropriate and reasonable caution should be used when providing activities to young children.

• Preschool

Objectives:

• Students will experience individually motivated play.  

CDA Competency Standard:  
II.5.1a
Activities encourage curiosity, exploration and discovery.
a)     Activities involve developmentally appropriate, hands-on experiences

Materials:  

• Wire coat hanger or pipe cleaners
• Brown paper
• Table top
• Artificial leaves, apples, bird’s nests and other items that relate to an autumn tree
• Other small items to create a small world  ​

Procedure: 

• Create an autumn tree small world by wrapping brown paper around a wire coat hanger shaped as a tree and providing a small basket of items for children to place on or around the tree.
• Invite students to create a small world scene using the provided materials.       

Assessment:  

• Assess students as they create their autumn scene. Did they use materials that were relevant and fitting for the season of autumn? ​
