(Unit 6) Topic 9: Exploring Adult Learning

3 Clock Hours of Early Childhood Education

The Cons of Teaching Adults

Topic 9 Page 5
I once attended a training where a gentleman sitting up front was loudly arguing with the trainer. She did a great job of ignoring his comments and eventually making light of the potentially awkward situation. These types of participants can be very stressful and they sometimes seem to feed off the tension and nerves that they cause from the trainers. This is probably one of the biggest cons of teaching adults, because unlike teaching a child, it can make you feel worthless or like a total failure.
Every con should be considered for what it is: a learning opportunity! Though, you may not see this initially, you should be in the habit of reflecting on areas of potential improvement. Don’t let it get you down!
